This piece holds a lot of space in my heart. These wall hangings were designed at a crazy time in my personal life, as well as the beginning of a pandemic. We moved twice in less than 30 days, leaving the first place I ever called home in my adult life. We purchased that home just a few months after getting married, I labored and birthed our first child in that home. It was HOME. Just two years after purchasing it, we made a decision to relocate for the better good of our family and to grow. So as we said goodbye to our home and city we loved dearly to open our hearts to a new adventure, there were many many unknowns. Like moving and not having found a new house. We lived in an apartment temporarily as we looked for our next perfect home. Saying goodbye to what I thought was our absolute perfect home and not knowing if/when we would really feel at home again was hard. This was all happening just as the world was told to stay home, that was also hard on my heart. I was sad. But I knew that even though our temporary housing situation wasn't exactly what I wanted. I am beyond blessed to know that anywhere I share with my husband and son, where we are all safe together, is truly home. I couldn't help but think of all the people, children specifically, that had a house, but not a home. Home isn't their safe place, and as I thought more and more about that, the heavier my heart grew for those children. I felt helpless but wanted to do something. So I designed these wall hangings and made a plan to find an organization to donate some of the proceeds to. I wasn't able to bring this idea to life immediately since we were living with the bare minimums of our belongs. All of my studio supplies were in a storage unit. But as quickly as we got settled into our very cozy little apartment, we found what would soon turn out to be our new perfect home, where we would soon create a best little home studio, where I could continue my passion of pottery. We had two of the most interesting house closing within 30 days, one to say goodbye to a beautiful place we created home in and one on a fresh start to a house waiting to be our new HOME. As we spent some weeks getting settled into our new house the world was faced with another event, a tragic event. George Floyd, a Black man, was murdered. At this point I was finishing up the Peace, Love, Home collection. I realized that for Black Americans their home, as in the land they call home, isn't always a place they can feel safe and at peace. I decided that I would be splitting the donations to not only help the domestic violence for children and families but also to send love to the Black community. Now, there are so many organizations to support, I was overwhelmed with how to choose the "right" one. As a woman, and a mama, I knew almost immediately that I wanted to support the black women who aren't given fair care when growing a tiny human.

All pottery is handmade from start to finish, fired two times, and glazed all within my home studio. Each piece starts as ball of clay, is either built by hand or created on the wheel, after being cleaned up, shaped and trimmed the item then dries out. Once the piece is bone dry it will go into the kiln for the first firing where is will be heated up to 1940 degrees Fahrenheit pulling out almost all the moisture. After it cools, the item is then sanded of any sharp edges and rinsed before getting its glaze application. At that point, it will go back into the kiln for its final firing which will reach 2232 degrees Fahrenheit. The piece is inspected for any imperfections that make it unusable or unsafe after it has cooled. Each piece is unique, and like handmade work, perfectly imperfect. All work is one-of-a-kind and created with love.
